A few of my favorite YouTube channels...

We have been using YouTube in our house since its early days. It was the first piano teacher for our young unschoolers; Awkward Black Girl was a date-night activity for me and the dad after EMOZA was asleep (or at least in their room for the night); and Chloe and Halle were just singing and strumming in their childhood bedroom (I could be making that up, but you get the point!). The first two TED talks I ever watched were Sarah Jones and mathematician Ron Eglash. Once while recording my daughters' Girls Rock Philly end of camp show, I ran out of space on my phone and another mom suggested that I simply stream live on my youtube account but just keep it set to private. Genius!
These days, I don't spend nearly as much time with YouTube as most people, and I am always surprised that people actually watch YouTube like we watched network television way back in the olden days of the late 20th century (i.e. the 80's and 90's). I still think of podcasts as only audio, and I am rather put off by the go-to "get more viewers" graphics youtubers use these days. All of that said, I do use it for some things like listening to music, films, and podcasts not found elsewhere, watching videos that would have been sold by vendors down the Ave or at cultural events in the 90's, for following my second sun Malachi's vlog, for workouts, perinatal videos for my own education and to share with my clients, and for how-tos as necessary. Mostly though, I am checking astrological and spiritual insight updates from my favorite readers. I like to know what is going on in the cosmic heavens and how it will affect me and the world around me. I figured I'd share so you can get the goods too... I'll aim to elaborate on some of these channels or their topics in future blogs and articles, so if something piques your interest, look around for more and if I haven't gotten to it yet, please let me know.

As always, I am just sharing. This is a running list developed over years. If you are open to it, you'll eventually see how they all connect. I check many of these platforms regularly, others not so much. They are platforms do or have enjoyed and think you might too; however, I am in no way vouching for any person, product, or idea. Please use your own good judgement and do your own thorough research and critical thinking before engaging.
How to vet a channel or influencer...
How many followers/subscribers
Are they asking for money before sharing
How long has the channel/platform been active
Do they have a blue check mark or equivalent
Does it align with what you already know to be true/correct
Do they cite sources and can you fact-check/cross-reference what they are saying
Do a quick search of their name, handle, taglines, etc and see what comes up
Are they established elsewhere (other platforms, brick and mortar, IRL, etc)
Is what they are doing/saying/suggesting generally harmless even if untrue
Do they show up in conversation on other trusted platforms
Do you have to give personal info to engage
What are their confirmable credentials
What's the general vibe
Trust your gut
We welcome you to share your thoughts, experiences, questions and related resources in the comments or in the Responses to blogs Group.
Thanks always for coming and for staying!
One perfect love,
~Naeemah :)
